Position Description

Our External Relat ions and Business Development (ER&BD) Off ice is the champion of

innovation and entrepreneurship at Loyal ist Col lege. We foster a culture of

interdisc ipl inary applied research, we forge partnerships with industry to dr ive future

economic prosperity and competit iveness , and we aim to bui ld a robust start -up and

scale-up ecosystem in Eastern Ontar io. As an Industry Partnership Officer , you wi l l be

at the forefront of this meaningful work , and funct ion as the cr it ical connect ive t issue

in the region’s fast -growing innovation ecosystem.

This new posit ion wi l l be responsible for identi fy ing and bui ld ing industry -academic

col laborat ions that maximize and grow the assets of Loyal ist Col lege . The day-to-day

responsibi l i t ies of this role wi l l be a mix of strategic v is ioning, business development ,

and public relat ions in support of the Col lege leadership team and academic units .

Report ing to the Senior Director of Business Development, a team of three Industry

Partnership Off icers wi l l work col laborat ive ly to create new opportunit ies for growth in

appl ied research, education , and training rooted across the three schools of Loyal ist

Col lege , inc luding:

  • Media Business and Access (MBA)
  • Health Human and Just ice Studies (HHJ S)
  • Appl ied Sc iences Ski l ls and Technology (ASST)

By al igning a broad range of col lege capabi l i t ies and resources to the needs of industry ,

Industry Partnership Off icers wi l l ensure Loyal ist Col lege has the tools needed to think

big and innovate. Together with industry , Loyal ist Col lege wi l l maximize i ts impact and

grow regional opportunit i es – accelerat ing “Made in Quinte” success stor ies in the

process.

Here’s What You Will Get to Do:

  • Support the Col lege ’s academic schools to d evelop and implement an on-going

strategy for the identi f icat ion, prospect ing, and stewardship of industry partners

that wi l l lead to appl ied research, education, and training with the Col lege .

  • Serve as a pr imary contact for inquir ies regarding appl ied research, education, and

training as wel l as networking events or other act ivi t ies and programs that respond

to industry needs and interests . Posit ioning the academic schools as the front face

to employers and industry.

  • Develop business plans for new program proposals in support of the academic

schools , a l igned with ministry guidel ines and approved by the Board of Governors

and government.

  • Support ing academic leadership, perform environmental industry scans, and

summarize market inte l l igence to help develop business cases for new or act ive

programming responsive to market and industry needs .

  • Work c losely with academic leadership to identi fy , respond, and secure new sources

of funding that refresh or bui ld state-of- the-art l iv ing learning labs as wel l as

develop opportunit ies to expand programmatic capabi l i t ies for appl ied projects .

  • Construct and negotiate the terms and condit ions of industry agreements with the

support of Loyal ist Col lege Corporate Services (e .g . , f inancial , legal , research, IP ,

r isk , insurance, etc .) and al igned with the col lege ’s academic schools as required.

  • In partnership with the Marketing and Communicat ions team and academic units ,

p lan, manage, and promote occasional events that br ing industry partners and

Loyal ist Col lege together.

  • Foster an awareness of federal and provinc ial government granting programs,

especial ly those that require industry part ic ipat ion and benefi t .

  • Develop a highly inf luential network of business , government , and community

leaders interested in advancing the miss ion and success of both Loyal ist Col lege and

the Loyal ist Col lege Foundation.

  • Track industry partner act iv i t ies , leads , and opportunit ies , while conf idential ly

maintain ing re levant stakeholder records in a CRM database.

  • Active ly encourage and faci l i tate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Other re lated duties as ass igned.

Here’s What You Will Need:

  • Must be an entrepreneurial , purpose-dr iven self -starter .
  • A three (3) year degree or diploma in business or re levant f ie ld.
  • A minimum of 7 years ’ experience with progress ive levels of responsibi l i ty for

business planning, business development and/or stakeholder re lat ions .

  • Superior written and presentat ion sk i l ls with deep experience working with senior

level dec is ion-makers to write and pitch winning proposals for funding, new

business , and/or projects .

  • Understand the academic support funct ion of business development in support of

the core miss ion of the col lege and i ts academic schools .

  • Proven track record of success in a stakeholder development and /or account

management funct ion , demonstrat ing diplomatic sk i l ls , fores ight , and sound

business judgement.

  • Extremely organized , inc luding abi l i ty to prior i t ize , mult i task and work on mult ip le

projects concurrently.

  • Coachable and sk i l led in leveraging subject -matter experts to bui ld a quick working

knowledge in unfamil iar areas.

  • Abi l i ty to quick ly assess and grasp stat ist ical , technical , or sc ienti f ic information and

translate to re levant appl icat ions for academia and industry.

  • Demonstrated abi l i ty to work cohesively and collaborat ive ly with a wide var iety of

const i tuents from students to chief executives , local to g lobal organizat ions,

  • Famil iar i ty with appl ied research and technical areas of strategic importance l ike

sk i l led trades , advanced manufactur ing , agr iculture , natural products , renewable

resourc ing , bioeconomy, healthcare , f intech and/or cyber security , as i t re lates to

emerging sector needs, trends, and opportunit ies .

  • An outstanding work ethic is essential , coupled with the desire and abi l i ty to work in
